Facebook Ads Agency: How To Choose One?

Having a Facebook Ads agency by your side has a lot of benefits. These agencies have extensive knowledge on how to grow businesses through Facebook Ads, not to mention the years of experience.

The barrier a lot of businesses encounter is choosing the right agency. In this post, we’ll be explaining the top things to watch out for, things to avoid, and questions that you should ask any agency who is potentially going to manage your ads.

1. Results, Case Studies, and Testimonials

This goes for any type of agency that you’re looking to hire, whether it’s a Facebook or Google Ads agency. You need to look for these 3 things:

  • Proof of their results
  • Case studies of the work they did for other clients
  • Testimonials from clients (ideally video testimonials)

Getting proof of results ties in with case studies. Case studies are an invaluable way of seeing what an agency does, how they approach different types of businesses, and how effective they are at growing those businesses.

Testimonials are equally as important. You don’t just want to know what an agency does, you want to know how their clients felt about hiring the agency. Text testimonials are far from ideal since they can be very easily faked. Video testimonials, on the other hand, are much harder for a Facebook Ads agency to fake and are more authentic.

If an agency is missing any of these things, reconsider whether they’re the right agency for you.

2. Facebook Ads Agency - Red Flags to Look Out For (And Avoid)

Guarantees

One of the biggest red flags we see in Facebook Ads agencies is when they offer guarantees. This includes if they guarantee a certain conversion rate, cost per conversion, or any other metric. The fact is, no marketing agency is able to guarantee any of these things.

In reality the agencies that offer this are using it as a sales tactic. They’ll do anything to get your foot in the door so that they have a chance of turning you into a paying client. There are simply too many obstacles that can come up which hinder a campaign’s performance, making it impossible to guarantee any level of success.

You might think, “Well if they don’t meet the guarantee I can just get a refund”. This is partially true – they might offer to refund you for their services. However, they’re not able to refund the ad spend they wasted. It’s better to avoid these types of agencies altogether and take your business elsewhere.

Contract Details

Another red flag is with the contract. It’s important that you read (or have someone with an understanding of contracts read) the contract in full detail before signing it. Some agencies will sneak crazy cancellation fees into the contract meaning that if you’re unhappy with the service they provide, you have to pay a hefty fee to leave them.

Generally speaking if an agency has these terms in place they’re either not confident about the service they provide or are just trying to make a quick buck.

Cheap Agency Fees

And the final red flag is when the Facebook Ads agency’s fee is too good to be true. Obviously, you want the best rate possible but at a certain point, it leaves a lot to be questioned. If they’re only charging you $500 per month:

  • How long are they actually spending on your campaign?
  • Are they outsourcing the work to places with cheap labor?
  • Are they properly managing your account or are they cutting corners?

Remember that the relationship has to be profitable for the agency too. If they’re offering a really cheap deal that seems too good to be true, it probably is.

3. Ask the Agency Questions

As you narrow down the list of Facebook Ads agencies you should eventually start contacting them. At this stage, you want to find out more about their agency – this is usually done with a Discovery Call.

During this call, don’t be afraid to ask the pressing questions. Ask them about the strategies they use when it comes to scaling campaigns and retargeting audiences. Ask them about the strategies they use to increase ROAS, and what they do to drop the cost per lead while keeping lead quality high. Really pick their brain and ask for specific details about their methodology so that you know they’re qualified.

4. Get an Audit Before Hiring an Agency

Even if you have to pay for it, request an audit from any Facebook Ads agency who you’re in the final stages of hiring.

Let them look at your current Facebook Ads account. They’ll be able to see all of your data and find out what you’re doing right, where you’re going wrong, and they can tell you what exactly they’ll do differently.

This is a great strategy for two reasons. First of all, you’ll find out what they bring to the table – how are they going to improve the campaign’s performance? Secondly, this tells us a lot about the agency’s attitude.

If they audit your account and come back with a 20-page generated document, they’ve put in 10 minutes of work. No effort has been put into analyzing the data and this hands-off approach is a sign that the agency isn’t going to do a great job.

On the other hand, if they have a detailed report with screenshots of your data explaining their thought process and what their remedies are, this is a great sign. It shows they don’t automate their work, they actually look into the data, and they have real strategies to implement.
